SHOW SYNOPSIS
10 TINY DANCES® is a specialized dance show which challenges dancers and movers to create and perform a dance for a tiny elevated stage 4’ x 4’ and 1.5’ high. Created in Portland, Oregon in 2002, it continues to be produced by founder Mike Barber and others. Mishele has been running shows in Corvallis for many years to great success. Please see www.tentinydances.org for more information.
FROM THE DIRECTOR, Mishele Mennett
“Books - Read Me a Story”
Reading transports us to other worlds, into magic, into ourselves. Pick a favorite book. Can you create that special feeling in movement? Maybe the feeling from your book is one of fear, silliness, romance, or wonder, but whatever book inspires you, just be sure it is “family friendly.” You do NOT have to tell or act out a literal story – just be inspired by your book and let that drive your movement. You can choreograph for yourself or for someone else.
PREPARATION NOTES
Please state on your Audition Application whether you want to choreograph and dance; choreograph only, or dance only.
At the audition you only need to have an IDEA about your dance. We do not expect your dance to be more than a vision at this point. You may connect with other dancers and choreographers at the Movement Workshops offered on Nov. 3rd and Nov. 17th. You can find information about and sign up for those workshops here:
Workshop 1: Beyond the Expected - Exploring Movement
Workshop 2: How to Go Tiny and Say Something Big
The workshops prepare you for the audition, but you can audition without attending the workshops.
AUDITION FORMAT
In small groups:
You will learn a movement phrase and perform it.
You will be given a prompt to create movement on the spot.
You will show a brief example of the kind of movement you want to use in your dance.
On paper:
You will answer a list of questions about your dance ideas. You will attach this to your Audition Application Form.
This list will be available at the Movement Workshops on Nov. 3 and 17, at the audition, or by emailing Mishele at dancingmish@gmail.com beginning in November. You can fill it out ahead of time and bring it to the audition with you.
If you have any questions about the show, the workshops, or the audition process, feel free to reach out to the director at dancingmish@gmail.com.
